BCCA Students Take a Trip of Lifetime

This week, the Butler County Career Tech Welding Students are taking a trip of their lifetime by traveling to Lenoir, North Carolina to visit some large manufacturing companies to experience a more "hands on" perspective of all the aspects of welding.

“During one of the tours, the factory representative who was the owner was so impressed with the students being engaged and attentive. He gave them his personal business card and said to call him if they wanted a job.  He said the students were so well-behaved with a positive disposition that he sincerely offered them jobs when there were ready to work,” said Debra Strycker (who is coordinating the trip).

The students toured a sign manufacturing company and a facility that converts steel into truck beds. Mr. Sandy Hoyle, the owner of the sign company, engaged the kids on all aspects of the process from the beginning of the design concepts, cutting and welding the metal to finishing and lighting of the signs. Afterwards, they toured Lenoir to see the art displays throughout the town created by artist and professional welders.  Yesterday, the students toured the NASCAR Hall of Fame, in Charlotte, NC where they had a behind the scene tour of cars, engines, and a 30 minute tour focused on the importance of welding in the racing arena.  Through the day they also were able to drive the simulators, participate in a "Pit Crew Challenge" and explore 4 floors of Nascar memorabilia.

“I am happy for these kids and this is an exciting experience they are having.  However, this trip is more than some welding students visiting a factory or two…or even going to the NASCAR Hall of fame.  For me, it’s about showing our community that we have very talented students with tremendous heart.  We just need to provide resources for them and a vision for what they can achieve,” said Strycker.

“Given our student’s proper resources and a clear vision and they will achieve greatness.”
